But Seishirou continued to reveal that he was actually the assasin group Sakurazoka-mori. And although it was called a "group" there was only one person. If a Sakurazoki-mori was seen killing, the person who saw it had to be killed as well. Subaru couldn't believe what Seishirou was saying and said that if that was really true, then Subaru himself couldn't still be alive. Then Seishirou reminded him of the "bet". Because he made a "bet" with Subaru, that's why Subaru could live. Seishirou asked Subaru if he knew why he had worn those gloves since 9 years old -- those gloves that were never to be taken off even in front of another Sumeragi. And he directed Subaru back to the memory. Young Seishirou said because young Subaru had a completely different (pure & truthful) character than he had, he decided to make the following bet: When they met again, Seishirou should live with Subaru for one year and try to "love" him. If after one year, Seishirou could differentiate between Subaru from a "thing", then Subaru would win and Seishirou wouldn't kill him. Otherwise, Subaru must die. Then he kissed on the back of Subaru's hand, encarving the mark of the reversed pentagram which was the sign of the Sakurazuka-mori. That signified the mark of Sakurazuka-mori's prey. When Grandma met Subaru again moments later, she was shocked to see the reversed pentagram. She made Subaru wear glove sealed with her own power so as to keep away from Sakurazuka-mori locating him. Seishirou explained that the day when Subaru and Seishirou met again at the train station, Seishirou knew at once that that was his prey. Seishirou could detect the signs he made although Grandma Sumeragi put her spell on Subaru's gloves to cover the Sakurazuka-mori's spell. That also meant that Grandma's power was weaker than that of Seishirou. Subaru was totally heart-broken. Seishirou explained that he had been trained to look at everything or everyone as "things". In order to gain the position of Sakurazuka-mori, he had to kill the previous Sakurazuka-mori which was his own mother. Since then he had not had any feelings for anything. Seishirou kicked Subaru and broke his arm without feeling anything; he said it's just like smashing a glass or kicking a stone. He embedded Subaru inside the tree, ready to finish him off when suddenly Grandma Sumeragi's shikigami bird broken through his illusion and saved Subaru, but even then, Grandma Sumeragi was hurt... Back home, Subaru hadn't spoken or eaten anything. He became totally catatonic. Hokuto was very regretful for letting Seishirou into Subaru's life because she thought Subaru could be loved like a normal person, and could find love for himself. She had her suspicions towards Seishirou, but she still allowed Seishirou to come close to Subaru. Hokuto knew that Sakurazuka-mori would definitely come back for Subaru. Therefore she bid him farewell, took his full costume, wished her brother's wakening in the future, and left. One month has passed since Hokuto's disappearance, but Subaru had still maintained his neglection for all things. Suddenly, inside Subaru's mind a call from far away: "SU BA RU" and the image of Hokuto-chan getting killed by Seishirou totally woke him up. He yelled out "HOKUTO-CHAN!!" and startled his grandma. He was crying and yelling his twin sister's name when Grandma tried to hold him back. The telephone rang. Grandma Sumeragi went to answer the phone. He came face to face to Hokuto, in front of a mirror which she was pushed into. Hokuto, wearing his costume, came to Seishirou. Hokuto told him that she would never let him kill Subaru. She understood that she couldn't kill Seishirou, but there was one spell that only she could cast. So Seishirou agreed to kill Hokuto. Hokuto started casting her spell. But Seishirou finished her easily. The vision was sent to Subaru through his dream. Subaru also remembered the old days when Hokuto talked about having the same face although they were two totally different persons. Subaru recieved a report on some unusual occurences at a residential building. He couldn't sense anything during the day and thought night time work might be a good idea. Suddenly, something blew up. A mysterious girl dragged him to the swings and asked him if he could help. There was someone calling for help and she wished Subaru could use his power to listen. Subaru used his shiki to locate the source of the disturbance and found out later that the help was from room 1206 of the building. He also obtained reports about the family living there. There lived a wife and a baby. The husband left them months ago... The little girl appeared again, asking if Subaru sensed anything. Suddenly, things were happening again. The girl urged Subaru to hurry and save the child. Subaru ran up to the building, feeling a strong will power surrounding the appartment. He was unable to open the door, so he cast a spell to open it. There inside the toom, a woman was beating a baby. Subaru snatched the baby from the mother. The baby's mouth was covered with a cloth so that it wouldn't make sound. The inability to express pain through crying was transformed to some sort of psychic wave so that it could seek help from outside. The mother couldn't understand why her husband had run away with another woman. She didn't know what she had done wrong. So she tried to punish herself by hitting the baby, thinking that the baby was part of herself. She felt justified at hitting the baby. Subaru was at the swings, lighting up a cigarette. The little girl appeared, saying that it was not good for his health to smoke. She asked about the baby, and was relieved when she heard that the baby was being taken care of. Subaru asked the girl that she knew about the baby because she had also been through it. The girl admitted that she was killed by her mom. She wished she was given the chance to choose to live or die because she was herself and not her mother. She forgave her mother, and was wondering if people did bad things because they were lonely. Before she left, Subaru asked her if his sister was there where the girl stayed. The kid asked Subaru what kind of person she was, and he replied that she had the same face as he did. The girl said there was nobody with such sad eyes like Subaru in the place where she lived and left. Subaru was walking away thinking about what the girl had said. "Maybe people who do bad things are lonely." He immediately saw in his mind the image of Seishirou holding the dead Hokuto in his arms, smiling slightly. Subaru shook his head, and with a determined look on his face, went on his way.
